Offers first poppy to Lehighton mayor

Averie Brode, 7, daughter of Robert Brode and Lauren Thompson, a student at Schuylkill Haven Elementary School, was named 2013 Miss Poppy for the Lehighton Auxiliary Unit 314. From left are, Gladys Balliet, president; Larue Fritz, poppy chairman; Brode and Lehighton Mayor Donald Rehrig. Brode takes part in soccer, dance, basketball and cheering. Lehighton Auxiliary 314 will be accepting "poppy" donations at the Carbon Plaza Mall on April 19 and April 20 and May 3 and May 4. Proceeds are dedicated for veteran projects.
