April 6, 1955 Palmerton's Jim "Toss" Oravec, who finished his high school career with 1,088 points, receives First Team All-State basketball honors by the Associated Press. Oravec tallied 432 points (an average of 17 a game) his senior season and also led the Blue Bombers, coached by Win Evans, in defensive rebounds and assists. On nine occasions he reached double digits in assists and had a single-game high of 21. He went on to captain the Georgetown cage team. Also on the First Team is a 7-1 senior from Overbrook High Wilt Chamberlain.
