Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met March 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 45 members in attendance. Two new members were welcomed, Elaine Truskey and Jane McLaughlin.

President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Raymond Zellner.

Reports were offered by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Gloria Gerhard. Betty Toro and Penny Schlorf were welcomed back to the group. The bus for the trip to Knoebel's Grove has been filled.

Birthday greetings were extended to Betty Toro. Edna Romanick and Doris Brobst donated items which were then presented to select members. The meeting ended with social games.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

McCann scholarships

The Pottsville Campus of the McCann School of Business and Technology is accepting scholarship applications from members of the high school class of 2013. The Academic Excellence Scholarship is worth 50 percent of a student's tuition. Additionally, the campus offers three Presidential Scholarships worth 25 percent of the tuition cost; 30 Imagine America Scholarships worth $1,000 each; and Alumni Scholarships worth $500 each.

Application deadline is April 20.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Rev. Roberts will also officiate at a contemporary service at 10:30 a.m., at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.

Also on Sunday, the to save a life growth group will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m., at the South Ward Playground, steering committee meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., growth group meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare session begins at 7 p.m.; Thursday, preconference meeting at 7 p.m. at Reedville EC Church; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. A children's message will be presented by Marge Kropp. The service will include Holy Communion.

Children's Sunday school will meet following the children's message. Adult Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearses at 7 p.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.

Activities for next week include: Monday, set up for rummage sale, council meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, deadline for newsletter articles, rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., learning ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m., chancel/adult choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m., cemetery committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, newsletter assembly at 9:30 a.m.
