Warrant issued for Maryland man

Jim Thorpe police have secured an arrest warrant for a Maryland resident, who formerly resided in Carbon County, on three felony counts.

Police said on Feb. 11 about 10:30 a.m. they were dispatched to a disturbance outside the county courthourse along Hazard Square. On scene Norma Smith told officers she had a verbal argument with her husband, Thamar Jerrard Smith, 39, who formerly resided at 687 Old Stage Rd., Albrightsville, following a custody hearing.

During the argument, and as she entered her vehicle, Smith reached inside and ripped off her necklace with a cross on it. She stated her husband then took the cross and fled the scene, leaving the chain behind. She valued the cross at $2,800.

Police secured an arrest warrant for Thamar Smith charging him with felony three counts of robbery, theft by unlawful taking of disposition, and receiving stolen property.
