Band festival

The Tamaqua Area "Raider" Band and Band Boosters will host the 16th Annual Land of the Running Water Band Festival on Sept. 29 in the Tamaqua Sports Stadium. This year's event will feature 11 visiting bands to be judged by a panel of current and former music educators. Trophies will be awarded.

High school marching bands scheduled to perform their fall field shows are: Annville-Cleona Dutchmen; Bangor Slaters; Emmaus Green Hornets; Exeter Township Eagles; Hamburg Area Hawks; Mahanoy Area Golden Bears; Minersville Battlin' Miners; Panther Valley Panthers; Pottsville Area Crimson Tide; Tri Valley Bulldogs; and Wilson Area Warriors.

The host band will also perform.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the competition will begin at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine.

Computer classes

The Salvation Army is offering two levels of computer classes, beginning Oct. 1, at the Tamaqua center, 105 W. Broad St. The classes will each have eight sessions.

Computer I is a basic, start from scratch class for those who have limited or no computer experience. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Computer II is for novices who have some computer experience and are familiar with basic computer navigation and the Internet

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes and the junior membership classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, commission meetings will be held at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, "Forgiveness" study for the women's group begins at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, fall sports study program begins at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 6:30 p.m., "The Story" growth group meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, End Times study group begins at 1 p.m., Men's Fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician's rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will all meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Thursday, prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m., cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practices at 7 p.m. and the senior choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
