Memorial dedication for Leona Smith
LINDA KOEHLER/TIMES NEWS A new sign at the Western Pocono Women's Club's Flower Garden was donated by Leona Smith's family in her memory.
Recently the GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club (WPWC) placed a new sign at their Flower Gardens, located across from the Chestnuthill Diner in Brodheadsville. It was dedicated in memory of Leona Smith.
Leona was a past president and charter member of the club, which was founded in 1970.
The Flower Gardens, established in 2002, have been planted and maintained by the WPWC as an Adopt and Beautify project in conjunction with PennDOT.
Leona's husband, Wayne, and sons, Brian and Eric, donated memorial funds for the sign and a bench, which was on display behind the club's food stand at this year's West End Fair. The bench was moved to a permanent location at the Western Pocono Jaycee's Memorial Park on Molasses Valley Road in Kunkletown. It was done in memory of their wife and mother. The Smiths have been active members of the Jaycees for many years.
Members of the GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club and the Western Pocono Jaycees are appreciative of these donations that pay tribute to Leona's memory.
