Lehighton police dept. issues 59 speeding tickets in August
The Lehighton borough police department issued 97 traffic citations during the month of August.
Of them, 59 were given to motorists who allegedly exceeded maximum speed limits.
There also were 12 tickets issued for special speed limitations in school zones.
Other traffic citations were: Registration and certificate of title required, 6; driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, 3; restraint systems, 3, accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle/property, 2.
One each for additional parking regulations, careless driving, driving vehicle at safe speed, following too closely, false reports, unauthorized person hanging from vehicle, unauthorized transfer or use of registration, and windshield obstructions and wipers.
The report by Chief of Police Neal Ebbert states there were 15 traffic accidents investigated in August.
Of them, two had injuries, eight were non-injury crashes, and five were hit-and-run.
The police investigated 72 criminal offenses during the month and made 29 arrests.
Of the criminal offenses, there were 13 offenses for underage drinking with two arrests occurring. There also were three burglaries reported and four motor vehicle thefts, and two each for criminal mischief and DUI.
There were one each arrests for harassment, motor vehicle theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness.
There were seven complaints of borough code violations, with three of them being dog complaints. No arrests occurred.
