Bombers, Bulldogs win in field hockey
Palmerton and Northern Lehigh won field hockey contests, Lehighton and Pleasant Valley were volleyball winners and the Bears finished third in the MVC girls tennis tournament on Friday.
Pottsville defeated Tamaqua by a final score of 328 to 355 at the Villas Crossing golf course.The top four for Tamaqua were Mike Weinert (75), Troy Reinhardt (89), Matt Stanek (95), and Travis Miller (96).
The top four for Pottsville were Bailey Roos (75), Randy Rubright (82), Kory McElvaney (83), and David Leymeister (88).
The Blue Raiders end the season with a record of 5-7.
Lehighton beat Pocono Mountain West in a Mountain Valley Conference match by scores of 25-11, 25-6, 25-14.
Tiff Thompson had three aces and two kills for the Indians. Jacki Jordan had three kills. Dallas Settzer led the Indians in aces with four, while also chipping in with three kills and two digs.
Lehighton also won the JV game 25-17, 25-17.
Pleasant Valley (11-1, 5-0) defeated Pocono Mountain East in Mountain Valley Conference action in three straight games, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-12. Courtney Miller led the Bears with 12 kills.
Salisbury beat host Northwestern 1-0 in a Colonial League contest. Kennedy Bresnak had the lone goal for Salisbury in second period.
Palmerton won easily over Wilson by a 4-1 score. The Bombers were led by Kaelyn Englert with 2 goals. Kyla Rodrigues had 1 goal and 2 assists for the Bombers. Morgan Mummey added the other goal and also had and assist. Palmerton out-shot Wilson 22-6 in the game. Devon Smith had 5 saves for Palmerton.
Northern Lehigh defeated Moravian Academy in a thriller by a 2-1 score.
With no time left on the clock at the end of regulation, Northern Lehigh was awarded a penalty corner stroke. Kayla Brensinger had the winning goal. Sharon Weil also had a goal for Northern Lehigh. Jessie Olewine had an assist for the Bulldogs. Nicole Horn had 11 saves for Northern Lehigh. Katherine Kistler had the lone goal for Moravian Academy.
Stroudsburg defeated Pleasant Valley 2-1 in overtime in MVC play.
Goals for Stroudsburg were scored by John Cili and Christian Bukowski. Jordon Ellison and Will Vesser both had assists. Bukowski broke the tie in overtime.
The lone goal for Pleasant Valley was scored by Haris Sabovic on a Mike Masuilo assist.
Both teams now have identical records of 7-1 (4-1 Conf.).
Stroudsburg came out on top against Pleasant Valley in a MVC league game, 2-1.
Goals for Stroudsburg were scored by Mari Cardelle, and Bria Bittiger.
Dianna Connor scored the lone goal for Pleasant Valley on an assist by Ema Sabovic.
Dani Bettini had six saves for Stroudsburg. Hailey Parks had five saves, and Janelle Pastrana had three for the Lady Bears.
The Girl's MVC tournament was held at Pleasant Valley. The Lady Bears did well on their home courts, placing third for the afternoon.
Pleasant Valley's Emily Thek took home first place in the No. 3 singles bracket. She defeated Faith Thaler of Stroudsburg, 8-5 in the finals.
The Lady Bears had a pair of second places in No. 2 singles and No. 4 doubles. Kara Urland placed second in the No. 2 singles bracket. She won her first two matches 8-4, 8-4. Cassi Snook and Ellie Heron were Pleasant Valley's No. 4 doubles team. They earned a second place finish winning their first two matches by scores of 8-4, 8-3 . Madison Olexson finished third in the No. 1 singles bracket.
Pleasant Valley totaled 19 points for a third place finish. Finishing ahead of the Lady Bears were Stroudsburg (2nd place) and East Stroudsburg South finishing in first place.
