Several persons were injured late Saturday night, one seriously in a single vehicle crash along SR443 in West Penn township. The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. but first responders were hampered in locating the accident scene due to the fact the injured did not know their whereabouts plus there was a language barrier in their reporting the incident to the Schuylkill County Communications Center. Emergency personnel did find the scene several hundred yards east of the intersection with Archery Club road. The group was traveling east when they failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway. Their sport utility vehicle left the right berm impacting with a tree. Several of the victims were able to exit the vehicle while others had to be extricated from the wreckage by members of the West Penn Fire Company #1. Several of the victims were frisked by West Penn patrolman John Kaczmarczyk who handcuffed one and secured him in his cruiser. Ambulances from Tamaqua and Penn Mahoning as well as Lehighton paramedics responded to the scene. The more seriously injured male was flown from the scene by MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center, Allentown. West Penn fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
