Two hurt in Turnpike crash

Two persons were seriously injured Thursday morning after being involved in a crash along the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. in the north bound lanes at the 72.2 mile marker about a quarter south of the SR895 overpass. The two were injured when the pickup truck in which they were riding overturned while pulling an 18-foot trailer. The truck and trailer came to rest on the left side in the right lane of travel. After being extricated from the wreckage the two were treated at the scene by members of the Palmerton Ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. They were the transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown. The two north bound lanes were reduced to one lane at the scene.
