New library issues discussed in Kidder Twp.

Published September 06. 2012 05:02PM

The Kidder Township Planning Commission met on Wednesday evening to cover a brief agenda.

Barbara Franzosa, president of the Friends of Penn Kidder Library Center, was present to discuss the ongoing issues regarding the new library that is planned for the Pine Point Plaza off Route 903.

The library will initially be a modular structure. The group estimates that it will occupy the modular unit for at least three to four years before moving to a permanent structure.

The use of a "temporary" building, which is used for more than two years makes a unique problem. Temporary structures, such as construction trailers, get special variances which are good for one year. Under the rules the variance may be extended for a maximum of two years.

Planning commission Chairman Gene Getz requested that solicitor, Joseph Ferdinand, the township engineer, and Franzosa look into the issue further and come back with a better understanding of what will be needed. According to Getz, once the commission knows what needs to be done, it will be in better position to help get the plans for the library through without unnecessary cost and delay.

The township 911 addressing is still ongoing. The need for possible address changes is being assessed. Commission member Lou Montanaro made a suggestion that the local fire companies coordinate the sale of the house numbers.

This would eliminate the use of township employees and act as a fundraiser for the fire companies as well. No decision was made.
