Barletta to receive award for transportation safety

Hazleton Mayor Joe Yannuzzi, the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, and several area chiefs of police will join Congressman Lou Barletta on Thursday to recognize the road safety and law enforcement issues. U.S. Rep. Barletta will receive an award for his leadership in transportation safety. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Congressman Barletta recognized the danger to motorists and the negative impact increased truck weights would have raised the federal weight limit earlier this year from 80,000 lbs. to 97,000 lbs.

Barletta will also be awarded the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association Award of Excellence. This award is bestowed annually to an individual who has exhibited an extraordinary commitment to and support of the law enforcement profession in Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association will be joined by the Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network to present this award in appreciation of Barletta's efforts, which have had a substantial positive impact upon the missions of both organizations.
