Two juveniles charged with setting fires in Monroe

Published October 30. 2012 05:01PM

Two male juveniles have been charged with setting three homes on fire in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the two have been charged in connection with arson fires at 6080 Boardwalk Drive and 6070 Boardwalk Drive, both which occurred on Oct. 25 and at the same time. A third fire at 6246 Park Place, occurred on Oct. 24. In all three fires the ruling was that they were deliberately set.

Police said a woman who resides in A Pocono Country Place, and who lives in close proximity of the suspected arsons, contacted them to report that her two foster children, who she previously reported as missing, had returned home on the evening of Oct. 24.

Police made contact with the woman and the two males. While investigating the circumstances surrounding the juveniles running away, one of the males was found to have in his possession a controlled substance and was taken into custody.

Police said a further investigation revealed that both of the juveniles had broken into the three homes that were set on fire, removed multiple items, then set the homes on fire.

The males also attempted to break into a residence along Country Place Drive, but fled when the female homeowner began to scream when she heard them trying to enter the home.

Both were taken into custody on arson and related counts and placed in a juvenile detention center.

The investigation into the incident is continuing and more arrests may follow, police said.
