Thorpe holds 18th Halloween Parade

The 18th Annual Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade was held Saturday.

More than 20 floats and groups marched in the parade this year. The Jim Thorpe Lions Club, who organizes and sponsors the parade, announced winners in two categories: Groups and Floats. The awards were given out at the Jim Thorpe Area High School where parade participants were treated to hot dogs, drinks and candy.The Group category winners were: Nesquehoning Girl Scouts, 3rd place, Jim Thorpe Girl Scout Troop 30134 and 31038, 2nd place, and Dance Explosion from Nesquehoning took first place. The Float category winners were: Jim Thorpe Girl Scout Troop 34289 "Disco Brownies," 3rd place, Jim Thorpe National Bank, 2nd place, and L.B. Morris Elementary School, 1st place for their float, "Don't Let Drugs Bug You.""The parade was a big success again this year," said Kathy Schwartz, Jim Thorpe Lion and parade committee member. "The Lions Club enjoys sponsoring this event for the community but we couldn't do it without the financial and time donations from community members and businesses."Jim Trainer, Jim Thorpe Lions president, announced at the awards party that the parade will be held on Sunday next year. "We moved it this year to have a rain date but we think Sunday is the better day," Trainer said. "It was a great parade. I'm proud of our Lions who make this happen and that the community benefits."

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Members of Girl Scout Troop 34289 proudly show off their costumes in their float themed, "Disco Brownies." The troop took 3rd place in the Float category.
