Published October 26. 2012 05:02PM

Yenser's Tree Farm in Lehighton and several other local Christmas tree farms in Carbon County are donating real Christmas Trees as part of the nationwide Trees for Troops program sponsored by the Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Association, the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and FedEx.

Last holiday season more than 19,300 trees were delivered to more than 70 military bases. This brought the total to more than 100,000 Christmas trees delivered since the beginning of the program in 2005.

Local growers and residents sent 443 trees on two trailers with Yenser's serving as coordinator.

On the Trees for Troops website and Facebook page, hundreds of military families leave heartfelt thank yous and pictures of their families celebrating around their beautifully decorated Christmas Tree. This is a message that was sent in from the Pendleton family, "Thank you for our beautiful Christmas tree! We weren't sure what we were going to do this year …Trees for Troops was an answer to our prayers!"

"Trees for Troops is a great program and is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved," says Christmas SPIRIT Foundation Chair Nigel Manley, a Christmas Tree grower in Bethlehem, N.H. "Christmas Tree growers love doing something for a cause, the military is appreciative of what they receive and FedEx makes it so easy for everyone involved."

The collection and delivery of trees will take place from the end of November through the beginning of December. Consumers will also have the opportunity to purchase trees to donate to the program at various FedEx trailer drop locations across the nation. We are very excited about this year's Trees For Troops Week - Nov.25- Dec .2" Yenser said. Yenser's Tree Farm will offer a 10 percent discount to any military personnel with a current military ID card. A 20 percent discount will be given to any military family that has a member serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. During Trees For Troops Week, we will offer a 5'-7' tree for $25.00 plus a 10% discount on their own tree to all consumers who purchase a tree for the Trees For Troops program. Also, Yenser's will contribute $5 per to the Christmas Spirit Foundation which implements the Trees For Troops program and other programs for kids, families and the environment, for every tree purchased and placed on the Fed Ex drop trailer.
