A student at the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, 17 Maple Ave., in Norwegian Township, is facing assault charges following an incident at the school which involved a Carbon County resident as the victim. During the same incident another student was also charged.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said they responded to the school about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, for a report of a assault.Troopers said a 14-year-old female from Williamstown, assaulted Leanne Thomas, 27, of Lehighton, by shoving, elbowing, pushing, and kicking her. Troopers said the teen, while making threats, also punched Thomas in the face.The teen is facing a felony count of aggravated assault.The second student charged at the same incident was identified as Caitlin Rich, 18, of Pottsville. Troopers said Rich repeatedly used loud profanities and refused to leave a classroom at the school. She was charged with disorderly conduct.
