Still in the hunt as season winds down

Published October 26. 2012 05:02PM

It was a pretty good week for this corner winning 14 out of the 15 games on the Grid Picks plate.

Not sure if it was the time spent on the Notre Dame campus, lighting a candle at the Grotto or just having Touchdown Jesus look over me for a couple of days, but it worked.

The only game I had wrong was the Lehighton game and it was a good wrong pick since it was a memorable victory for rookie coach Tom McCarroll and his Indians. It's always nice to see one of our local teams pull off an upset to throw some spark into the program.

Week No. 9 gets into some games that has not only post-season playoff flavor, but some league titles on the line. So it's back to the crystal ball to see what's in store for us.

Here goes:

MARIAN AT JIM THORPE - This could be one of the trap games on the schedule this week. The Colts can't afford to look forward to next week's clash with Tamaqua. Jim Thorpe is the most tough luck team in our area, losing the most games by a touchdown or less and in the waning minutes...Marian, 28-21.

NORTH SCHUYLKILL AT PANTHER VALLEY - The Panthers haven't had much offense since Richie Smith went down with a season ending injury. The Spartans are fighting for an Eastern Conference berth...North Schuylkill, 28-7.

MINERSVILLE AT TAMAQUA - Remember the trap games I mentioned earlier? This is another one. The Blue Raiders have to continue t take them one game at a time...Tamaqua, 34-7.

PEN ARGYL AT PALMERTON - Best thing the Blue Bombers can do now is try to pull of an upset the last two weeks to make their season...Pen Argyl, 31-14.

NORTHERN LEHIGH AT CATASAUQUA - The Bulldogs have played their best football the last two weeks. It'll take another big effort to pull of a win against the unbeaten Roughies...Catasauqua, 19-14.

NORTHWESTERN AT BANGOR - Slaters need to bounce back after loss to Northern Lehigh...Bangor, 32-7.

POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST AT LEHIGHTON - Here's hoping the Indians can ride the momentum of last week's win over East Stroudsburg South for another victory...Lehighton, 21-18.

PLEASANT VALLEY AT EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH - The Bears can't afford to look ahead to next week's clash with Stroudsburg that could decide the MVC crown...Pleasant Valley 21-7.

PALISADES AT SOUTHERN LEHIGH - Spartans haven't blinked once since getting their first win back on Week 4...Southern Lehigh, 28-14.

SAUCON VALLEY AT WILSON - Remember when every Saturday home game used to be a win for the Warriors?...Saucon Valley, 24-14.

MAHANOY AREA AT SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - It's hard to pick against Hurricanes this weekend with the latest weather forecast...Schuylkill Haven, 32-7.

ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC AT PARKLAND - The Trojans have big post-season plans on their mind...Parkland, 28-6.

EASTON AT WHITEHALL - Red Rovers and unbeaten and head to Whitehall, a place where they pulled out an overtime win last year. This one will be close again...Easton, 18-14.

EMMAUS AT NAZARETH - Blue Eagles will be missing some key people, but that just means Rob Melosky will expect more from those that are on the field...Nazareth, 21-14.

NORTHAMPTON AT LIBERTY - Another team with the nickname Hurricanes that gets my vote ...Liberty, 20-13.
