Fillies, Bears still perfect

The Marian and Pleasant Valley volleyball teams both capped undefeated regular seasons on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALLMarian-ShenandoahMarian swept Shenandoah in Schuylkill League action, 25-21, 25-7, 25-20.With the win, the Division 4 champion Fillies move to 14-0 and finish the regular season undefeated. They will play Division 1 champ Pottsville on Wednesday at Martz Hall at 5:30 in the league semifinals.Marykate Sherkness had team-high totals of 18 kills, 11 digs and three aces to lead Marian's sweep of the Devils. Also playing well for the Fillies were Grace Boyle (eight kills); Emily Pilla (four kills); Nikki Collevechio (10 digs, two aces); and Abby O'Donnell (32 assists, five digs).Marian also won the JV game to finish off an undefeated season.Pleasant Vy.-StroudsburgPleasant Valley remained undefeated in regular season MVC play (12-0) by defeating Stroudsburg, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.MacKenzie Dorney played well for PV, ending the game with 14 digs, nine kills, one block and two aces. Courtney Miller added 11 blocks and seven kills. Kiersten Griesback led PV in assists with 14.Pleasant Valley will host the MVC semifinals on Tuesday, October 23.Panther Vy.-LourdesPanther Valley defeated Lourdes Regional in a close Schuylkill League game, 15-25, 26-24, 20-25, 26-24, 15-10.With the win, Panther Valley improves to 10-3 in league play and ties Pine Grove for first place in Division 2. The Panthers and Cardinals will meet in a playoff on Monday for the division championship and a berth in the league postseason tournament. The site and time for the playoff have yet to be determined.Jordan Devitt keyed the Panthers' win with her two kills, four assists and 22 digs. Jessica Weise added nine kills and 10 digs. Richelle Van Horn also had a solid game contributing seven kills, eight service points and 11 assists.Panther Valley also won the JV game, 2-0.Jim Thorpe-PottsvillePottsville defeated Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League play, 25-18, 25-7, 25-11.Riley Carroll had nine assists and one kill for Jim Thorpe. Makenzie Walck added three kills and four blocks for the Olympians'. Shannon Green chipped in two kills and two blocks.
