Coaldale Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 held an Open House on Monday evening to mark Fire Prevention Month.

The event, which featured an inflatable house to help teach children how to escape fires, drew a good audience.

The children received free fire helmets, got to try on protective gear, and sit in a fire truck. Firefighters demonstrated how their gear works, what a smoke alarm sounds like, and what to do if one's house catches fire.
