Truck crash shuts down busy road

Published October 15. 2012 05:05PM

A truck crash shut down a busy Schuylkill County road for several hours on Sunday. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred about 12:10 p.m. along SR61, just south of the Mount Carbon arch jughandle, in North Manheim Township.

Troopers said Johanthan Hobelman, of Westfield, Ind., was operating a 1995 International tractor with trailer northbound in the right lane hauling 34,000 pounds of aluminum.

As he approached a right curve, the load shifted and caused the rig to roll over onto the driver's side. The rig came to rest facing northwest blocking the entire northbound lanes of travel.

Hobelman was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville.

Troopers said the road had be closed until the load of aluminum was cleaned up. Northbound traffic was diverted at Cressona onto the Gordon Nagle Trail through Pottsville and back to SR61.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
