Western Pocono Lioness Club hosts annual fashion show
ADELE R. ARGOT/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Lioness Nancy Beck, center, was presented with the Sisterhood Award by Club President Virginia Lamendola, left, and Vice President Ruth Smith, right. Beck serves the club as Tail Twister.
"You are so Beautiful," was the theme for the 16th annual Western Pocono Lioness Club's fashion show, which took place at the Hideaway Hills Golf Club.
That theme was fulfilled, from the decorations that adorned the tables to the models in their various outfits and the overall atmosphere and fellowship of the event.
"Our fashion show is a wonderful event which my friends and I look forward to every year," Lioness Carol Heppa said. "My whole table has made reservations already for next year. We had a great time."
Club Vice President Ruth Smith agrees.
"All my friends at my table have also booked for next year. I applaud all the Lioness who strive to work together to make a wonderful event."
And that, too, working together, impacting those in need whether directly or indirectly through donations given to other agencies to help in-need individuals, added to the beauty of the event.
Lioness Club President Virginia Lamendola announced that due to the work of the club and the generosity of the community, the Lioness Club would be returning $8,000 to the community.
Beginning the event with entertainment were the Xtreme Dancers from Melody's Dance Studio in Gilbert. They danced to the music of "Who Runs the World?" creating smiles, toe-tapping and applause, their black and pink outfits picking up the pink of the white and pink balloons decorating each table.
Lamendola bade the full house of visitors welcome and Lioness Nancy May led the group of over 150 in the refrain of "God Bless America," with the Lioness toast and the Pledge of Allegiance following. Lamendola introduced Lioness Ruth Smith and Lioness Maryann Lalumiam, who was presented a pink corsage by Lamendola and Smith to thank her for her efforts for the event.
Lioness Nancy Beck, the club's Tail Twister, had the job of entertaining the group in between happenings. Her first story was "The Talking Centipede."
Because of her spirit and good works throughout the whole year, she was presented with the Sisterhood Award by Lamendola.
Smith presented the Shining Star to Lioness Yvonne Pagano and two plaques of appreciation were presented to Smith and Lalumiam by Lamendola.
As the models walked through the audience, Lioness Joyce MacDonald narrated the typical runway descriptions, adding her own wit to the script when changes happened unexpectedly. Outfits were courtesy of Coldwater Creek, Dress Barn and Elegant Bridal.
The models, both Lioness and non-Lioness, included: Nancy Christman, Ruth Hebron, Carole Hudson, Connie Paggione, Claudette Segear, Barbe Sieg, Joyce Castillo, Karen Heckman, Joan Hoffman, Margaret Kluk, Madlyn Reimel, Terry Reinhart, MaryAnn Cloos, Ann Hineline, Colleen Mancuso, Alexis Merhige and Marlo Merhige.
