Tamaqua woman uses shovel, frying pan to assault her ex-boyfriend
A Tamaqua woman was jailed on Monday, charged with assaulting her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend at their residence.
State police at Frackville identified the defendant as Jennifer Wood, 20.
The victims of the attack were Thomas Kehl, 22, of 123 Park Place, Mahanoy Township, and his live-in girlfriend Ashley Beynon, 18, of Tamaqua.
Troopers said Wood has been charged with aggravated assault, burglary, recklessly endangering another person, and criminal mischief. She was arraigned before District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $20,000 percentage bail.
According to troopers here's what happened.
About 9:20 a.m. on Monday Wood went to Kehl's residence and with the use of an unknown sharp instrument put large scratches/gouges down the left side of Kehl's car.
She then flattened all four tires on the car and hit the hood with an object causing a dirt smudged-large dent. She also cracked the right side windshield.
Troopers said she then forced her way into the locked home.
She picked up a full sized spade-type shovel and entered a bedroom where the two victims were sleeping.
She then struck Kehl with the shovel waking him. Wood continued to strike Kehl with the shovel on the forearm. She also struck Beynon with the shovel.
Kehl was able to disarm her.
Wood then went to the kitchen area and returned with a steel frying pan. She then struck Kehl with the pan and hit him on a leg.
He was able to take the pan away from her.
Wood then picked up a fireplace poker and attempted to strike both Kehl and Beynon.
Kehl was again able to get the weapon from Wood.
Wood then went outside the residence and returned wielding a small coal shovel. She struck Kehl on the side with the shovel before he was able to get it from her.
During the incident Beynon attempted to stop Wood and she then bit Beynon on the hand.
Troopers noted Kehl had a large dark coal shovel-shaped contusion on the left side, redness and swelling on the right wrist and forearm, and red contusion to the right leg.
Beynon had redness/swelling to the right forearm near the wrist and a closed bite mark on her lower right hand.
Troopers did not indicate if they required medical attention.
