A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges after fleeing police and then crashing his vehicle. State police at Frackville said the incident began about 8:58 p.m. along SR924 near Shenandoah.

Troopers tried to stop a 2008 Kia Rondo for speeding northbound when the driver sped away. A short pursuit then began and continued on 924 to Redner's Market service station off 924 near Shenandoah. The driver drove back onto 924 and head southbound. The driver then exited 924 at the Gilberton ramp to SR4030. At this point the driver failed to negotiate a left curve and the Kia traveled onto a rock embankment causing extensive damages to the vehicle.

The driver was then taken into custody and identified as Thomas Beltran, 39, of Ashland. He was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of a laceration to his head sustained in the crash.

Troopers said Beltran was charged with fleeing and eluding police, and numerous motor vehicle code violations.
