Elicia Sheckler Stein, using the pen name Elise Stein, held a book signing at the Palmerton Area Library on Sept. 22 to introduce her first major book, "The PTA Man."

She wrote for the TIMES NEWS while she was at Lehighton Area High School, from which she graduated in 1997. She had a teenage advice column and published short stories and poetry.

She has a bachelor's and master's degree in psychology and completed schooling by getting a doctorate in psychology. What she calls her "day job" is as a clinical psychologist for the government.

"The PTA Man" is her first major book and she self-published it.

"I have a problem with starting a book and not finishing it," said Stein.

The inspiration for the book came the day she attended a PTA meeting at her daughter's school and there was a man there. She thought that was different.

Stein said the book is basically a suspense story with some naughty scenes built in. The man is the president of the PTA, a man with a good reputation, who has an affair with one of the moms. Then his wife disappears.

"Did he kill her, is she missing?" Stein asks.

There is a police investigation and more is found out about him.

She has five books "in the works" and keeps a list of ideas

Her mother, Terri Sheckler said Elise has been writing since she was little. She wrote funny stories as a kid.

Some of her school teachers from elementary and middle school came to see her at the book signing.

She tries to put up a book review each week at The reviews are usually about controversial books, maybe something that has been banned, or else classic books.

"The PTA Man" sells as an e-book for $2.99 and as a paperback at $9.99 at A portion of the book may be read without charge at as part of the author's page.
