A female motorist was seriously injured early Saturday morning when involved in a violent crash along SR534 in Polk Township, Monroe County. The crash occurred at 5:30 a.m. as she was traveling along a straight stretch of roadway. For some unknown reason she lost control of her car leaving the west berm impacting with a tree broadside at the passenger door. She was extricated from the wreckage by members of the Polk Township fire company. The victim was treated at the scene by members of the West End ambulance before being flown by Penn Star helicopter to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center. The roadway was closed for an hour. Residents at the scene praised the Polk Township fire fighters for their quick response to the scene. Lehighton state police are investigating the incident.
