Lenard Sawyer, 46, of Mt. Pocono, is facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and endangering the welfare of a child as a result of a two-vehicle accident at 4:59 p.m. Nov. 20 at the intersection of SR611 and Sussex Road in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said they responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a mini van driven by Elaine Lemley, 46, of Tobyhanna, and a pickup truck operated by Sawyer.

Police said they learned Lemley was attempting to turn onto SR611 and her vehicle was struck by the pickup truck.

Police said Lemley was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

They said Sawyer displayed signs of intoxication and was given field sobriety tests that he failed.

Police said a 12-year-old girl was a passenger in Sawyer's vehicle. She was evaluated at the scene by the Pocono Mountain Regional EMS.

Police said they transported Sawyer to the Swiftwater barracks of the state police, where he submitted to a breath test.

Police said traffic citations will also be issued against Lemley.

Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Coolbaugh Township Fire Department.
