"Miracle on 34th Street," adapted from the 1947 movie, tells the story of Kris Kringle, the living image of Santa Claus, who becomes the last minute substitute for the drunken Santa Claus who was to lead the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He is offered the job as Macy's Toy Department Santa Claus. Supervisor Doris Walker soon begins having second thoughts about hiring Kris: it's bad enough that he is laboring under the delusion that he's the genuine Saint Nick; but when he begins advising customers to shop elsewhere for toys that they can't find at Macy's, he's gone too far. He is put under psychiatric evaluation for having the delusion that he is in fact the real Santa Claus. Ultimately, he ends up in court for a sanity hearing to decide if he needs to be put away in a mental institution. All along the way, Kris makes a big difference in the lives of everyone he comes in contact with, and slowly you see more and more evidence that he is indeed, Santa Claus.
