Schuylkill driver dies in crash

A Schuylkill County man was killed when his pickup truck left a county road and crashed into a tree.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said John Webb Jr., 22, of Pine Grove, was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota westbound on Wild Cherry Road, in the area of the Manbeck's Zion Evangelical Church, Washington Township, about 1:05 a.m. at a high rate of speed.

As he approached a right curve in the road he continued straight. The truck crossed the center line and traveled across the eastbound lane and onto the south berm. The truck then collided into a tree with the front portion. After impact the truck spun 90 degrees counter-clockwise and came to rest along the south berm.

Webb was pronounced dead at the scene by county deputy coroner Wallace Hodgson. Damages were severe to the truck.
