Large garage destroyed by fire in Packer Twp.
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS A large storage garage in Packer Township was completely gutted during a fast-moving fire yesterday evening.
Fire departements from three counties were dispatched Friday evening to battle a large structure fire along Packer Drive in Packer Township.
Despite a quick response by the volunteers, the structure was destroyed after the fast-moving fire tore through it.
The building served as a large storage garage for Terry and Jennifer Berger, who's home, 548 Packer Drive, was located adjacent to the structure. The siding to their home was melted from the high heat.
Two vehicles and other equipment could be seen burning inside the structure.
While responding to the fire, Quakake firefighters noted that they could see the fire's high trail of dark smoke as far away as the intersection of SR309 and Ben Titus Road in Rush Township - over 10 miles away.
Firefighters brought in multiple tanker trucks to keep the two temporary water bladders filled.
Responding were firefighters and tanker task force teams from Weatherly, Tresckow, Hometown, Hazle Township, Beaver Meadows, Freeland, Lehigh and Lausanne, Quakake and others. Fire police closed that section of Packer Drive during the response.
No injuries were reported and there was no information released yet concerning the cause of the fire.
