A veteran Coaldale councilwoman is the borough's new secretary-treasurer.

Council members who attended the public meeting Tuesday voted unanimously to hire Nancy Lorchak for the job. Council President Susan Solt and Councilman Steve Tentylo were absent.

Lorchak steps into the position held by Louise Lill, who will retire on Nov. 30. The full-time job pays a total of $24,500 a year, but does not include benefits.

Lorchak will start her new job in December, but must first resign her seat on council. That means council will be seeking someone to replace her.

She was appointed to the office in 2005, and was elected in 2008. She won election to a second term beginning this year, so there are three years left on her term.

Lill, who has worked for the borough for 11 years, announced her pending retirement on Oct. 9. She has offered to remain available to help train her successor and to wrap up any open projects.
