While it had a hard act to follow, this year's Carbon County Veterans Day Parade passed with flying colors.

On a day that overflowed with emotion, support for this year's parade, held Sunday in Palmerton, was at a feverish rate.

Hosted by the Palmerton United Veterans Organization Palmerton American Legion Post 269 and Palmerton VFW Post 7134 the annual event was held in the borough in honor of the celebration of its Centennial.

The event followed the dedication of the Palmerton Veterans Memorial, held earlier in the day in the borough park.

The six-division march was hosted by the Palmerton United Veterans Organization, which consists of the Palmerton American Legion Post 269 and Palmerton VFW Post 7134.

The theme of this year's parade was "Honoring All Who Served," according to Ed Moyer, commander, American Legion Post 269.

There were over 80 groups, with over 900 marchers, such as various veterans organizations, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, fire departments, ambulance corps, and the Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley and Weatherly area high school marching bands.

Moyer said he was extremely pleased with the number of people on hand for the parade.

"Parade attendance was the most I have seen," Moyer said. "Veteran groups from all of Carbon County were represented, as well as some from Lehigh, Monroe, and Schuylkill counties.

Next year's parade is scheduled to be held in Lehighton.
