Former Rush Township Supervisor Stephen W. Simchak, 56, of Lake Hauto, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, felony fleeing/eluding police and a number of summary traffic charges in connection with an Oct. 27 incident.

At 9:07 p.m. that day, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on SR54. With lights and sirens activated, police followed the driver, who refused to stop. Instead, the vehicle continued on to a home in Lake Hauto. There, the driver was apprehended and identified as Simchak.He was transported to the Pottsville Hospital for blood work, which indicated a blood alcohol content of .175 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
