A New Philadelphia man escaped injury this morning shortly after day break when his Hyundai struck a deer along SR443 in Mahoning Township at the area near 443 Auto Sales lot at 2848 Blakeslee Boulevard, Lehighton. Mark Dieter, the driver, was assisted at the scene by Amie Barclay, Mahoning Township police officer. Barclay said that it was the second deer hit this morning. She was also at the scene of a deer strike at 5:20 a.m. on SR902. She noted that she was on patrol all evening and had not seen any deer until it started to get light out. She warned motorists to leave early and take their time because this is the time of year when bucks are moving.
