Lansford man jailed for assault

Published November 08. 2012 05:02PM

A Lansford man was lodged in the Schuylkill County prison following an incident in Tamaqua on Monday.

Jeffrey Boyer, 48, of 240 E. Bertsch St., allegedly was at the home of Corrine Duke, 44, 264 Brown St., when he accused Duke of taking his money. He then began to punch her, knocking her down and kicking her when she was on the ground. This action, which took place after 11 p.m., was witnessed by neighbors, who called police and went to Duke's aid.

Once on scene Patrolman Michael Hobbs and Cpl. Dwayne Hacker found Boyer inside the Brown Street home, tossing items around. He was taken into custody, while Duke was transported to St. Luke's University Hospital - Miners Campus, Coaldale, with injuries to her face, eye, and head.

Boyer was arraigned before on-call District Judge Carol Pankake, Tremont, on charges of simple assault, making terroristic threats, and harassment. Bail was set at $35,000. Unable to post the required 10 percent, Boyer was jailed in the county prison in Pottsville.
