Long recognized and praised as a creative force in acoustic music, Claire Lynch is a pioneer who continually pushes the boundaries of the bluegrass genre.
The current Claire Lynch Band is a powerful juggernaut, a quartet that has the innate ability to perfectly interpret the beauty, subtlety, and genre-defying sophistication of Claire's music.
With a voice that's been compared to Nanci Griffith and Alison Krauss, Lynch has successfully fused a background in popular music and a love of bluegrass.
Together with a remarkable band, she has long been garnering attention as one of the most emotive vocalists in contemporary bluegrass. A two-time Grammy nominee, she has a way of choosing well-crafted narrative songs that address life's issues through its sinuous plotlines. "Whatcha Gonna Do," Claire's most recent release (2009) has been called "a stripped-down production with sumptuous acoustic atmospheres" showcasing Lynch's award-winning vocals and the instrumental brilliance of her four-piece band.
Whether it's the telling of stories of miners striving for a better life ("A Canary's Song") or a wayward lover deep in the mire of adulterous lust ("A Mocking Bird's Voice") or the penultimate moment of a sojourner about to meet his Maker ("Face to Face"), Lynch tells her stories with relentless and heartfelt emotion.
In addition to singing on her solo albums, Claire has sung on albums by Ralph Stanley, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Patty Loveless, Dolly Parton, John Starling, and Pam Tillis.
