Tamaqua Mayor Jerry Knowles told council the police department will begin a crackdown on speeding within the borough. Targeted streets include Broad Street, Spruce Street, Schuylkill Avenue, and Owl Creek Road, although speed enforcement will not be limited to those areas. Knowles told council he wanted the public aware of the crackdown before it begins. "Everybody wants speeding arrests made, but they want the other guy arrested," the mayor said. Council President George Willing said the borough wants to enforce speed laws for safety's sake, not as a means of raising revenue.
