Lansford woman, child injured during crash with tractor trailer
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Scattered debris from the accident littered both lanes of SR309 in West Penn Township yesterday. West Penn Township Fire Police volunteers closed SR309 for about an hour while police investigated and the accident scene cleared.
Accident debris scattered both lanes of the SR309 in West Penn Township as firefighters and paramedics rushed to the aid of a mother and her child after their vehicle collided with a tractor trailer yesterday afternoon.
The unidentified woman, from Lansford, and her four year old child were flown to an area hospital.
Authorities stated that the woman, driving south and drifted into the northbound lane and crashed into the side of the tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer suffered little damage to the driver's side of the trailer and tire, while the woman's car suffered major damage to the front end.
The two injured were flown to an area hospital via a Medevac helicopter, which landed on an adjacent baseball field.
Officials on scene stated the woman was still wearing a hospital bracelet and recently left a hospital. She also told firefighters that she blacked out.
Responding were West Penn Fire Company, Tamaqua Fire Department, fire police, ambulances from Penn Mahoning and Tamaqua and others.
West Penn Fire Police detoured both lanes of SR309 through Sunny Road as firefighters removed debris from the road.
The names and condition of both the mother and child were unavailable, as West Penn Township police were unable able to be reached today.
