Hundreds come out during Tamaqua pep rally
Pep rally organizer Justin Startzel motivates the crowd into a cheering frenzy prior to the entry of the Tamaqua Raider Football team. Startzel volunteered as Tamaqua's Raider mascot while in high school.
Hundreds cheered as Tamaqua firetruck sirens and bullhorns sounded off while members of the Tamaqua Raiders football team entered the Tamaqua communtiy pep rally held last night at the Depot Square Park in Tamaqua.
"This event showed the amount of growing pride and support Tamaqua has for all its sports teams, " said event organizer Justin Startzel.
The event was also held to promote tomorrow's game against Marian Catholic. Currently, Tamaqua is undefeated, 9-0, with their closest season in 1962, when Tamaqua, coached by Dick Jones, finished 10-0-1 and grabbed the Eastern Conference championship with a 14-0 win over Blakely. Assistant coaches were Harry Fetterman, Walt Ligenza and Sam Pagano.
"This has been a great season and we want the Anthracite League Championship," said Startzel. "So come help cheer and support our undefeated Blue Raiders!"
