Dave McAndrew, assistant principal at the L.B. Morris Elementary School in Jim Thorpe noted that "at this time of the year, the food pantries need extra assistance with the coming holidays."

To help out with that situation, the school's students have collected over 800 cans of food and and other packaged food items to be sent to some pantries.

The two food pantries that will receive the food donations are Ebenezer Evangelical Congregational Church at 441 Center Avenue in Jim Thorpe and Christ Lutheran Church at 189 Church Road in Penn Forest Township.

The students who brought in a donation were rewarded for their efforts with a dress-down day.

The collection of the food for these pantries was organized by Mrs. Mordaunt, Principal and McAndrew.
