Hurricane forces Uriah Heep to cancel Penn's Peak concert

Published November 01. 2012 05:02PM

A concert scheduled for tonight at Penn's Peak by the British band Uriah Heep has been cancelled.

A statement on the band's Web site said the concert is off because the band hasn't been able to fly into JFK airport.

The statement reads that the band was willing to fly into Raleigh instead of JFK, but the airline wasn't able to accommodate the entire band.

The Penn's Peak stop was the first on Uriah Heep's U.S. tour.

The band also says on its Web site:

"Additionally, many East Coast roads remained closed, trailers have been banned in some areas, and the band's agents could not get the necessary unequivocal assurance that all venues would be open.

Officials at Penn's Peak said refunds are available at the point of purchase.

The next concert event at Penn's Peak is Friday night when Umphrey's McGree performs. Opening will be The Bright Light Social Hour.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7.

For thirteen plus years Umphrey's McGee has been delivering innovative music to their throngs of fans and that throng is continuing to grow bigger with their latest release, 2011's Death By Stereo.

The bands chemistry is something all its own, culminating upon a crazy touring schedule of 100-plus shows per year, a solid base of musical training and friendships going all the way back to their years together at Notre Dame.

"If our relationships aren't strong, it heavily affects the music," says Brendan Bayliss, guitar and vocals in their press release.

The Bright Light Social Hour-The Bright Light Social Hour is an American rock band from Austin, Texas.

Born out of a university art-rock collective, the band first gained attention in Austin from their incendiary live performances and innovative vision of rock and roll. Melding southern rock, hard dance, psychedelic blues, and deep soul, their debut full-length album led to heightening critical acclaim, national touring, and a rare sweep of six awards at the SXSW 2011 Austin Music Awards, including Band of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.
