Lions president to host meeting on Carbon K-9
Tom Zimmerman IV, president of the Mahoning Valley Lions Club, has called a meeting for 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss the potential future of the Carbon County K-9 program.
It will be held at the Lehighton American Legion Post.
Zimmerman said, "This event is to discuss what we can do and how we can help with the possible closing of the Carbon County Animal Shelter. We will need resources, volunteers, ideas, plans, and help whatever is decided. We need to meet as a group to discuss options for the welfare of Carbon County animals. We need this shelter open."
The meeting was called after the Carbon County Commissioners announced last week they are considering ending the K-9 Program and possibly finding a group or organization to take over it over.
"Please note this is a open discussion; however, we don't need to rehash the mistakes, we need to look beyond that and concentrate on it's future for the sake of the animals," Zimmerman stated.
Zimmerman is the coordinator for the annual "Polka for Pets," an adoption-awareness event held each year at the Lehighton Community Grove.
The fifth annual Polka for Pets will be held this year from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, at the Grove. Admission is free.
At Polka for Pets, there will be animals for adoption, a microchip clinic, spay and neuter information, food, and entertainment.
The entertainment will be by the Pennsylvania Villagers Polka Band from 2-5 p.m.
