Monroe cyclist injured in crash

A Monroe County motorcyclist was injured in a crash in Carbon County over the past weekend. The accident was one of several investigated by state police at Lehighton.

Troopers said Frances D. Kintz, 54, of Stroudsburg, was operating a 2011 Harley Davidson northbound on SR209 in Towamensing Township, about 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 19. As he approached Red Hill Road a large deer ran onto the road in front of him. The bike struck the deer which caused Kintz to lose control.

Kintz was thrown from the bike onto the road. Kintz, who was wearing a helmet, was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH), Salisbury Township, for treatment of injuries, troopers said.

A one-vehicle crash occurred about 9:07 p.m. on Friday, May 18, along SR209 in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Maureen H. Bush, 41, of Kresgeville, was driving a 1998 Kia Sportage northbound when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle. The Sportage went onto the berm and crashed into a large rock at the entrance to West End Therapy property.

Bush and passenger, Sean McCrudden, 45, of Kresgeville, were not injured. She was cited for careless driving, troopers said.

A one vehicle crash was reported at 5:15 p.m. Friday along Maury Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Blake D. Ringler, 23, of Elizabethville, Dauphin County, was operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle when he lost control. The bike then tipped over sideways and slid southbound into the northbound lane where it came to rest.

Ringler was injured and taken to the Lehighton hospital for treatment. He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Franklin Township police and township fire company personnel.

Troopers investigated a crash about 4:46 p.m. on Friday along Cherry Hill Road at the intersection with Sunny Rest Drive, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Robert W. Jording, 64, of Gilbertsville, operating a 1992 Jeep Eagle, was making a left turn from Cherry Hill onto Sunny Rest Road. As Jording turned the rear of his Eagle was struck by a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven northbound by Glenn J. Rex, 54, of Palmerton.

Rex was injured and taken by Palmerton ambulance to the LVH for treatment. Jording and his wife, Shirley A. Jording, 60, were not injured. Troopers cited Jording for vehicle turning left.

Troopers probed a crash about 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, along Interchange Road (SR209), at Polk Township Road, in Polk Township. Troopers said Melissa A. Roper, 28, of Effort, was driving a 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara southbound on Polk Township Road and approaching the intersection. At the intersection Roper stopped for a stop sign then pulled into the intersection but failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2009 Toyota driven northbound on 209 by Susan C. Vanderwiele, 57, of Glen Spey, N.Y. The front of the Suzuki hit the left rear of the Toyota. The impact pushed the Toyota into a utility pole.

After impact Roper fled the scene but was located about three hours later. She was cited for a stop sign violation along with hit and run.

Roper, Vanderwiele and her passenger, Robert H. Thiele, 46, same address, were all not injured.

A one vehicle accident occurred about 12:23 p.m. Sunday along Dotters Corner Road in the area of Plum Drive, in Polk Township. Troopers said Duane Ackerman, 51, of Stroudsburg, was operating a 1985 Yamaha motorcycle when a deer ran into the bike and knocked Ackerman to the ground. Ackerman was injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

A crash was reported at 6:05 a.m. on Monday, May 21, along SR903 near Behrens Road, in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said William H. Schwalm, 45, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2008 GMC Canyon southbound when a deer entered the road and into his path. The GMC struck the deer.

Schwalm was not injured.
