Schuylkill woman victim of theft

A Schuylkill County woman is the victim of theft by deception in an apparent phone scam. State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the incident.

Troopers said Diane C. Rowlands, 69, of Orwigsburg, West Brunswick Township, reported she was contacted by numerous individuals alleging that they represented Global Winners International and told her she had won $2.5 million and a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

She was required to send various amounts of Money Grams via Western Union and prepaid Green Dot Money Pak cards to various individuals to claim her prize.

Troopers said Rowlands never received the prizes mentioned but had ended up sending $7,825 to the individuals.

The investigation into the incident is continuing, troopers added.
