Youngsters enjoy great day of fishing at Phifer Ice Dam Park
Gail Maholick/TIMES NEWS Tyler Strohl, 14, of Franklin Township, proudly shows off his trout he caught on Sunday during the Poho Poco Rod and Gun Club youth fishing day held at the Phifer Ice Dam Park.
In recognition of local military veterans, Poho Poco Rod and Gun Club hosted a "Youth Fishing" day on May 13, at the Phifer Ice Dam Park.
The ponds where the children could fish for trout is adjacent to the Franklin Township Little League fields. The ponds at the Phifer Ice Dam Park were stocked by the Club with 225 trout, including two trophy size trout for this event.
Youngsters aged 0 to 15 who are children, grandchildren or great-grand children of military veterans in the lower Carbon County area, also with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and their families and the children and their families of Dream Come True Blue Ridge Chapter also were invited to fish for free.
Among those taking advantage of the fishing event was Tyler Strohl, 14, of Franklin Township. Tyler quickly caught his five fish limit, but threw back one of the fish so he could continue to fish for more.
Tyler also assisted his sister, Kendra, 11, with her catch.
"We had a good time watching the kids enjoy the day," said Larry Ahner, club member. " We had more children and adults attend than last year and we're hoping to grow this event."
Nearly a dozen members of the Poho Poco Rod and Gun Club assisted at the event.
