Northern Lehigh School District's 2012-13 budget is available for public inspection.

Sherri Molitoris, co-director of business affairs/human resources, informed the school board on Monday that the board intends to adopt next year's final budget when it meets at 7:30 p.m. June 11.

In a related budgetary matter, the board unanimously agreed to designate fund balance ending June 30, 2011, as follows: Committed fund balance for Health Insurance Premiums ($810,000); and PSERS increase ($2,724,536); Assigned fund balance for Assigned for current school year usage ($1,100,000); transfer to capital projects, turf, Peters roof, etc. ($1,488,000); technology ($71,788); replacement equipment ($1,000,747); and long range maintenance ($800,000); and unassigned fund balance ($2,207,342), for a fund balance total of $10,202,413.

Molitoris noted a good portion of the fund balance has been earmarked for the PSERS increase.

Rhonda Frantz, co-director of business affairs/ employee payroll & benefits, said visits have been made to Peters Elementary and Northern Lehigh Middle School to discuss the budget.

Frantz said the teachers have been "very receptive" to the budget, and added visits will be scheduled with Slatington Elementary and Northern Lehigh High School to discuss the spending plan.

Next year's $28,106,782 budget calls for a zero-mill increase, which if the board were to approve, would leave the property tax rate unchanged at 64.37 mills in Lehigh and Northampton counties.

That would mean a person with a home valued at $100,000, and assessed at $50,000, would again pay $3,219 in property taxes to the district next year.

Last June, the board adopted this year's $28,787,461 budget, which also called for a zero-mill increase.

Also on Monday, high school Principal Robert Vlasaty recognized senior Maggie Surdovel for her vast list of accomplishments.

Those achievements include president of the Library Club; president of the Marching Band; president of the Concert Choral; vice president of the Interact Club; and historian, National Honor Society Class of 2012; a 2011 Freddy Award Nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Female Ensemble Member; a 2012 Freddy Nominee for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role; Women's Club Girl of the Month for May of 2012; and Rotary Club Observer for Nov. of 2011.

Vlasaty said Surdovel "represents Bulldog Pride", and added he would present her with a certificate of achievement.

In an unrelated matter, Superintendent Michael Michaels recognized Exchange Student Ricardo Sandoval.

Sandoval, a native of Venezuela, has stayed with two host families throughout the course of this school year.

He thanked the district "for the opportunity being here at Northern Lehigh."

Also as part of his report, Michaels:

• Announced May 7-12 was National Teacher Appreciation Week.

• Announced Baccalaureate will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, in the high school auditorium.

• Announced graduation will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1.
