Officials updated on water tank project

Published May 15. 2012 05:02PM

James J. Rhodes, Jr. of Alfred Benesch and Co. was on hand at the monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning Water Authority. Rhodes provided authority members with updates on the water tank project.

The required permits are ready to be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. It should take approximately three to six months to approve. Once approved, the project can be advertised and bids can be received.

Rhoades also presented authority members with a pump station design that was approved at the April meeting. The booster station will be located at Industrial Road and will supply approximately 20 gpm on average and 1,100 gpm under fire flow conditions as per a contract supplement given to the authority. It will be a pre-packaged style in order to reduce up-front costs for the authority.

Authority members requested that Rhoades look into the maintenance costs for the three different types of tanks available as well as information on a propane versus diesel generator.

In other matters, the authority will sign an agreement with Convergence Communications of Hazleton for the purchase of new narrowband radios as per FCC mandates.
