Armed robbery in Palmerton

Police from two counties converged on Palmerton late Saturday night after a report of an armed robbery at the Pyramid restaurant at 548 Mauch Chunk Road. Palmerton Police were dispatched at 9:37 p.m. to a report of a female being robbed at gunpoint after a lone male, described as being in his 20s, between 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 with a thin build, brown hair, blue eyes, and dressed in all black with a black covering over his face, brandished a handgun and robbed the business. Police searched the railroad bed behind the restaurant and the surrounding area but came up empty-handed. No injuries were reported in the incident. The robber made off with an undetermined amount of cash. Lehighton, Franklin and Mahoning township police along with Lehigh Township of Northampton County also responded. The matter remains under investigation.
