Just after 9 p.m. Thursday, Tamaqua police and fire police closed Mauch Chunk Street in the Dutch Hill section while responding to a victim being attacked by a group of individuals. After hearing a commotion outside their homes, residents near the intersection of Mauch Chunk and Market streets told a TIMES NEWS reporter they saw a shirtless young man get tasered by a Tamaqua officer. The man, who witnesses said appeared to be in his late teens, then ran off. Witnesses added that the person the police tasered was beating another younger individual while others watched. The victim, who appeared to be a juvenile male, who was later taken to St. Luke's Hospital Miners Campus, Coaldale, via Tamaqua Ambulance, could be seen sitting at the curb covered in blood. Responding were police officers from Tamaqua, West Penn and Rush Township. No information was available from police as of press time.
