A total of $2,460.82 was raised for the Tamaqua Carbon unit of the American Cancer Society (ACS) by staff, teachers and students of both the West Penn and Rush Elementary Schools during numerous events held throughout the school year. At the end of the combined school's Fun Day, all the students came together to see which class raised the most donations. Since Cindy Viel's fourth grade class, Tamaqua Elementary School, was one of the top donation collectors, Viel was "rewarded" with a pie in the face from fourth grader Lottie Mateyak, 10; third grader Liah Mateyak, 10; fourth grader Sadie Morrison, 10; and kindergartener Ella Morrison, 6.
