Completion of temporary bridge in Tamaqua about 3 weeks away

Contractors estimate that completion of PennDOT's temporary Center Street (SR309) bridge in Tamaqua is about three weeks away. Contractors from Clearwater Construction, a PennDOT subcontractor, have recently completed footers and abutments for the temporary 150-foot-long bridge, which runs over the Little Schuylkill River near the south end of town, by the Hess gas station. The temporary 38-foot-wide, 150-foot-long steel bridge is being constructed to allow traffic to move while the old bridge is torn down and replaced. The architecture of the new bridge, expected to be completed this year, will resemble the older parapet-style bridge. Work on the bridge started in the summer of last year and has involved the relocation of water lines, sewer lines, oil pipelines, telephone lines, communication lines and power lines.
